I’m Maria Francesca Broggini, founder of æmbrosia.
For me, this is not only a job - it’s a life mission. It might seem an exaggeration, but I truly feel that I need to create embroideries in order to be happy, “working with the hand, the head, and the heart together”, to quote Ruskin.
Today being a young artisan means to propose a unique product, of excellent quality and designed with creativity and technical knowledge, enriched with the artisan’s view of the world and personal aesthetic.
My path to arrive here hasn’t been always linear and I felt discouraged sometimes. I had a lot of opportunities to choose an easier way and to risk less, but in these crossroads I’ve always chosen to follow my own way, creating it by myself if it didn’t exist yet.
My path with embroidery has gone through other subjects, like art, fashion and costume, walking through university classrooms, ateliers, tv sets, and countries. I’ve been enriched by every experience made, that have left their footprints in my creations.
I have studied deeply and professionally some of the most antique and precious techniques from the embroidery history, once worn only by royals and nobles, to propose them in a personal and contemporary way.
To these teachings I have added my asthetic and ethic vision, which can be summed up in the famous incipit by John Keats:
“A Thing of Beauty is a Joy forever”.
Poetry and books have always fascinated me, and are an important part of my work, because they can tell the beauty through memories. You will find them often in my creations!
“Fine art is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart of man go together.”
-J. Ruskin
